The stock market has been taking hits with respect to stocks held by long lasting companies for a long time. This is in a large part because of the inability for liquidity and depth in there stocks. In other words if a stock does not move and stays the same there is no money to be made. Think about it you can make real money by hedging or speculating. If you can't do either there is no money to be made. Investors want a return on investments.
